Why Healthcare in Accra Specifies Facade Ghana

A hospital envelope works harder than almost any other. It has to keep wards weather-tight and comfortable through the rains, control daylight and solar gain so patients and equipment are not overheated, and seal tightly enough that the building’s internal environment stays stable and clean. Facade Ghana has engineered and installed performance façades across Ghana since 1982, and the healthcare sector is where air-tightness stops being a number on a test report and becomes a clinical requirement: a leaky, draughty envelope is an infection-control and comfort liability on a working ward.

Healthcare clients and their engineers specify air, water and solar performance because the building’s services depend on it. A sealed, hygienic envelope

A hospital’s internal environment depends on an envelope that seals tightly and stays sealed — gaskets and joints detailed so air, water and contaminants are kept out and the building’s HVAC can hold a stable, clean internal condition. We design the gasket and joint detailing for that duty and confirm the air-tightness of the installed wall by pressure test.

Air-tightness, verified by pressure test

Air-tightness is the performance that matters most on a ward. We test air leakage through the façade to ASTM E283 and verify the installed elevation in the field with the AAMA 501 test family, so the sealed envelope the brief specifies is proven, not assumed.

Solar and daylight control

Patients, staff and sensitive equipment cannot sit behind an unmanaged glazed wall in Accra. We specify solar-optimised performance glass and, where the elevation needs it, external shading, so the envelope brings controlled daylight to wards and waiting areas without the heat gain.

Weather-tightness and wind-load

The envelope must keep driving rain out and carry the building’s wind load to the structure. We test water penetration to ASTM E331 and verify structural performance under wind load to ASTM E330, so the hospital stays dry and stable in the worst of the wet season.

A healthcare envelope is always priced on survey, by height, access, glass specification and system; as a regional West African comparison an indicative benchmark runs roughly 280,000–311,000 F CFA/m² for a complete curtain wall, confirmed against the building rather than quoted blind.
